The Beginnings

In February of 2008, I craved a significant life "reconstruction." Belly dance was my main source of happiness and, after quitting my stressful corporate job, I yearned for a way to do something professionally that was satisfying for once. So, the question became, "How do I incorporate belly dance?" Having only danced for a year, I knew professional belly dancing was not in the cards at the time. So I asked myself what about belly dance, other than dancing, made me happy. Costuming, of course! My favorite game as a child was dress-up, I'd loved dressing up in my dance recital costumes as a child, and in theater in high school. After a lot of research into suppliers, I created a website and Beledi Boutique was born!

My mission statement was primarily to provide quality dance wear that is affordable. I was always a little bit of a fashion plate, so I wanted to stay on the pulse of belly dance fashion trends, too. I knew I also knew I wasn't the only dancer who felt flooding by unattractive, cheap costumes online. Because of this, I have made it a strict point to hand-select merchandise that doesn't fall apart after just a few uses, or appear better than it is. This may limit me to customers who are intermediate-to-advanced dancers who know what they are buying and are willing to pay a little more for quality, but that is a sacrifice I am willing to make. I am so confident in the quality of the items I offer, that I instated a satisfaction-guaranteed return policy.

It has been 2-and-a-half years and I am growing at a head-spinning rate due to my loyal customers. But I will never go back on my initial mission to make an extra buck. That is my sincere promise to you, my sisters and brothers in the dance.
